Cleo C. ACKLEY, 93, of Littlefield Township, died Jan. 1, 1989, 
at Bortz Health Care of Petoskey. 
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at the Stone Funeral Home, 
Petoskey. Lt. Gary Felton will officiate. Burial will be in the 
Macon Cemetery, Macon, Mich. 
Mrs. ACKLEY was born Sept. 20, 1895, in Indiana, the daughter of Harrison 
and Celesta (FREED) CLEMENTS. She moved here with her family as a young 
girl and attended school at Sunnyridge in Littlefield Township. 
She married Lee E. ACKLEY in Petoskey. The couple resided in the 
Alanson area. 
Mr. ACKLEY preceded her in death in 1961. 
Survivors include; one son, Ross ACKLEY of Alanson; one daughter, 
Mrs. H .J. (Eleanor) TEMPLIN of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; 
five grandchildren; 1 9 great-grandchildren; 
two great-great grandchildren. 
The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army or the friendship Center 
of Petoskey. Envelopes for memorials are available at the Stone Funeral Home
where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday She died on 
1 Jan 1989 in Hawes, Emmet, Michigan. She was buried on 5 Jan 1989 in Macon 
Cemetery, Macon, Lenawee, Michigan. She appeared on the census 1920 & 1930

He married SHIRLEY MAE MAWHINNEY 04 Jun 1960 in Delavan, WI, 
daughter of WILLIAM MAWHINNEYand BESSIE BALDWIN.  
She was born 29 Jan 1938 in Delavan.

Notes for SHIRLEY MAE MAWHINNEY:

Bessie Mawhinney claims Shirley was a ligitimate child of 
William Francis Mawhinney and herself. An 1/2 Indian child was 
secretly adopted into the family around this time. Numerous 
derogitory comments were made to Shirley by Bessie such as 
"people need to take baths especially people like you." 
Her dad William Francis called "His little Indian Child". 
In 1975-76 when checks were passed out to the Indians her mother 
had her sign two pieces of paper, and would not let her turn them 
over to see what they were. She claimed they were for insurance. 
The papers were the size and shape of government checks.

Her birth record was not found in a personal search (5Jun1996) 
of the Walworth Co. Birth index, although her sister before her was 
there and her sister after her was listed on the index. 
We were able to get a copy of a birth certificate.

and LaVonne Joyce Cathmen. Named change/adoption was done to enable a 
healing process to happen because of childhood abuse by Marval and Shirley
Clements. This enabled Linda to forgive her parents and resume a new relationship with them.

in June 1986.
