The ancestors of the Tennessee branch of the family was John Cash. The family tradition is that they were Dutch, but this is uncertain. It is said the wife read her Dutch Testament to the day of her death. John Cash was a Revolutionary Soldier and is said to have been at Valley Forge. At the close of the war he joined his family at Jonesboro in east Tennessee, only a few miles from the Virginia line. On his return from the army he moved to Alabama but after a few years he returned to Jonesboro where he died.
James Ingo Cash (son of John) was born about 1800 in Alabama and died 10Mar1885 in Jonesboro, TN. He married Annie Key. She died and he married a second time.
