SUPPOSE HE HAD BEEN HUNG - Al Harpster is now serving a life sentence in the penetentiary for the killing of Martin Julian, near Ponca City, which was actually done by a man named Cole, as he confessed just before dying of a mortal wound, Friday. Cole had taken his 15 year old step sister away from her father at the point of a winchester and was killed by the pursuing sherrifs posse. He confessed that he had shot Julian from ambush, while the latter was riding with Harpster and two girls, as the three survivors swore on the trial. Suppose harpster had been hung. Could all the courts in Christondom bring him to life? Oklahomas new constitution ought to prohibit capital punishment.

STATEHOOD AT LAST
A COMPROMISE
Has at last been reached by Senator Foraker and Speaker Cannon and we will get statehood probably this week. Arizona and New Mexico will each have a vote and either can reject or the two territories.

McGEE'S EARLY DAYS
D.C. Hybarger of Maxwell, was in town Monday. Mr. Hybarger is one of the old settlers here, his father having settled the Hybarger farm near town. He remembers seeing one of his brothers kill a wild turkey where the store of W.T. Hayes now stands, and another kill a deer where Long's stable stood in the rear of Hyden's store.
The town, after proposals to locate it on Spring Brook, east of its present site, was finally located here at the forks of the road. The road forked just about in front of Santford & Strickland's store, one going to Pauls Valley and one to Wynnewood.
Mr. Hybarger has some very fine white Plymouth Rocks with which he expects to capture the blue ribbon on the next trade day. Who can beat him? There are no entrance fees or charges. Free to all comers.

REMARKABLE CURE FOR CANCER
A.C. Reese, of Payson, Okla., who has been here for some time under treatment by Whitt Hyden, for a bad cancer, returns home this week entirely cured, and with the sore almost healed up.
This was seemingly as bad a case of cancer as can be cured. The cavity left when it came out was as large as the palm of the hand and right over the juglar vein of the neck. Mr. Hyden thinks that Mr. Reese would have lost his life if the cancer had gone unchecked two weeks longer. It would have eaten into the juglar vein, of which it lacked less than half an inch.
He claims he can cure any cancer, except those that have been operated on with a knife. The only case he ever failed to cure was one of this kind.

On of our citizens who occasionally wipes the dishes for his wife, became tired of the job and refused, saying that "It is not a mans work". Not being disposed to lose his help she brought the Bible out to convince him of his error and read as follows from IIKings 11:13 - "And he will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down." It is needless to say that he is still doing his occasional stunts.

OLDEST WOMAN - Elsie Cobb, a Creek freedwoman, died June 3rd, near Muskogee, at the extreme age of 116 years. The record of her birth as a slave is preserved.

THE NEW TOWNSITE - General Atourney Sharp of the Oklahoma Central R. R. Co. was here Friday and finally closed the deal for the new townsite on the Hyden land two miles south of town. They secured 179 acres from Whitt Hyden, 50 acres from Mrs. Ella Gabbert, 50 acres from E.L. Martin, 10 acres of unappropriated land and 50 acres from another party, making 360 acres in all.
Mr. Sharp thinks the lots will be on sale in the next thirty days. The plans and terms of sale have not been definitely decided on yet. But it is probable that the certificate plan will be adopted. Certificates entitling the holder to a lot in the new townsite will be sold and a drawing will be held afterwards to decide who has first choice, and so on. Lots will be sold at about $40, on two payments. Indications are that it will make a great town.

C.A. Cole and wife went to Ardmore, yesterday.
SUDDEN DEATH - Wm. Vanhook, an old gentleman of 86 years, died very suddenly at 4 o'clock Wednesday morning, while sitting in his chair. He died of dropsy. Deceased came to this country from Tennessee three years ago.
