Mrs. Jefferson Davis, who died in a hotel in New York last week was universally loved throughout the south for the cause she represented and admired in all sections for the many womenly virtues that were hers. Occupying for many years, a position in the hearts of her southern fellow countrymen second to that of no queen, she was ever gentle and womanly, and true to the ideal set up for her by the South. Thousands of true hearts were saddened by the news of her death.

Rent houses are almost unobtainable. Even rooms are scarcely to be had. Something like a hundred rent houses ought to be built in Walling.
A NEW NAME - A petition was circulated Tuesday asking the Department to name the post office here "Willoughby." This is the given name of Mr. Walling, and the name suggested in the first place by Mr. Sharp, General Attorney of the road.
Messrs. M.M. Ledford of McGee, and James H.E. Moorehead of Hickory, are applicants for the office of postmaster at Walling. The Department holds that the name must be changed before an office can be established here. It is about time the matter was being decided. We hope to be able to publish the new name in our next issue.
J.F. Sharp, Esq., General attorney for the Oklahoma Central Railroad, was in Walling Tuesday. Mr. Sharp was agreably surprised at the rapid growth of the town. He believes there is a great future before it. He thinks there is no reason why tracklaying should not reach Walling by the 10th of November and in all events by the 15th, as the work is being pushed as fast as men and money can make it go.
J.B. Patterson and G.P. Yeager and families, formerly of this vicinity, were gathering big red apples, week before last,near Roswell, New Mexico for 10 cents a bushel. Irrigation does it.
G.W. Merrill has been appointed chairman of the board of Election Judges of Precinct No. 6, which votes at Walling. M.M. Ledford and D.M. Hyden are the other judges.Mr.Merrill is instructed to go to Ada no later than two days before the election for the tickets.
READ THIS AND REMEMBER WHERE YOU HAVE TO VOTE
Precinct No. 4 will voteat Center in the Johnson building and will comprise all of township 4, range 5 E, except sections 25, 26 27, 34, 35 and 30.
Precinct No. 5 will vote at Lanham school house and will comprise all of township 4 N range 4 E.
Precinct No. 6 will vote at Walling and shall comprise all of township 4 N, range 8 E.
Precinct No. 7 will vote at Hart in the Davis building and shall comprise all of township 8 N, range 3 E, and all of township 8 N range 4 E.
John W. Beard - election commissioner for the 87th constitutional district, Ind. Ter.
A.A. Patterson and L.D. Shipman and families, will leave for New Mexico, Monday. Many good men are leaving.
Mrs. S.S. Clure, Of Ada, has bought lots 10 and 11 in block 11, and will erect a first class hotel building. She believes there is a great future for Walling.
Dr. Woods of Midland, was in Walling Sunday.
We forgot to set up W.R. Carr's Blacksmith ad last week; but nevertheless, he has gone right ahead making sparks fly at the old Cox shop in McGee, working for alot of good people who know him.
C.L. Griffin has sold his building at McGee to H.M. Byford.
C.O. Wright and family, visited his son in Waurika, Okla. last week, returning Friday.
J.T. Straughan will soon have his two story building completed.
Born - To Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Hollingsworth, near Hart, a fine boy.
The Quarterly Conference of the Methodist church will convene at Johnson Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
Mrs.W.U. Goodwin went to Dallas Thursday.
Rev. J.W. Bell informs us that a new association of Baptist Churches has been formed at Jesse. He has been elected missionary of the association, and will begin his work November 1st.
Seasoned Heater Wood, delivered at $2 per rick - Shi Brothers at the gin.
G.W. Merrill was at Roff Tuesday, where the Indian payment was in progress. He tells us the payment amounted to a considerable sum.
Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Martin went to Roff last week. Their little boy was taken quite sick at Roff, but soon recovered.
Mrs. K. Kelley, who has been visiting at Reisel, Texas returns home this week.
Aditor Gilbert, of the S.M. Gloyd Lumber Yard, was in Walling Saturday, looking after the interests of the business.
