VOL. 4 MCGEE I.T. THURSDAY NOVEMBER 1, 1906 NO. 50

It is Stratford instead of Walling.
Now let us incorporate Stratford.
We suggest that someone take the census and we apply for incorporation at once.
John Keef tells us that M.M. Ledford has been appointed postmaster at this place, and the office has been named Stratford. Stratford was the name first suggested by George Northrup, the popular agent of the townsite company. Mr. Ledford has made the bond required and sent it to the department.
-----------
There are many reasons why we should incorporate the town. In fact the necessity for incorporating the town at the earliest opportunity forces itself upon our observation, it intrudes upon us at every turn and even at night the ugly bark of the six shooter warns us that incorporation may be necessary to save some human life from a wayward bullet.

(I wonder whats going on here. It seems like there should be details reported in the paper but there isn't any)

------------
Main street in Stratford will make a fine promnade, and will be a popular drive way when the ravines on the east and west are bridged. A bridge has been placed on the west ravine just north of Main.
Hon. T.N. Robinett of Ardmore, and Judge U.G. Winn of Ada, will speak in behalf of the Republican party at McGee, Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Baptist church.Music will be furnished. Everybody, especially ladies, are invited to attend.
Derrick and Mayhew have just finished painting the residence of Whitt Hyden Jr., a very pretty color. It is a gem.
J.F. Sutton went to Ada Sunday.
Mrs. C.H. McCurdy went to Roff Monday.
A.D. Sanders will have his jewelry shop in the Eldridge building at the corner of Main and Pine avenue.
They are moving fast. Dr. A.H. Shi had his dwelling moved over last week. Will Young had his dwelling in Stratford and fencing up before anyone was aware of it scarcely. Dr. S.S. Widener is having a neat dwelling erected at the corner of Main and Spruce.
Judge Robert Roland of Roff, was in Walling (now Stratford) Friday.

Cotton Pickers Wanted - Our farmer friends say - It is impossible to hire cotton pickers, though they are offering 75 to 85 cents per hundred.
Butter is readily purchased at Walling for 20 - 25 cents per pound, and is very scarce at that. In fact it can't be had.
Dr. Holloway's residence at Center was destroyed by fire Wednesday night of last week. The family was away from home at that time, and nothing was saved.
See Chas. S. Anderson for fire insurance. He represents some of the wealthiest companies in the world, Hartford, Paltiane, et al. Office in First Bank of McGee.

Burglary - An attempt was made about one o'clock Sunday night to burglarize the hardware store of Campbell Hutchinson & Co. Mr. Braley was returning from an entertainment with a young lady, when he heard unmistakable sounds that caused him to exclaim, "Someone is trying to break into the hardware," and starting across the way in a run, a ditch caused him to fall and the noise frightened the would be burglar away. He had made good headway. The putty had been removed from three sides of the glass. The nextburglar that fools with that window is likely to get fooled.
A.P. Smith and family, of Byars, will move to Stratford and make it their future home.
Mr. Mills, a wealthy citizen of Sulphur, was here Sunday with a view to buying land near the city.

IF WE ONLY HAVE THIS EVIDENCE, THE NAME STRATFORD WAS DECIDED SOMETIME BETWEEN 25OCT1906 AND 1NOV1906, AND THE NAME WAS SUGGESTED BY GEORGE NORTHRUP - NEXT WEEKCLICK HERE
