Atty. Gen. Knox has designated Chickasha as the official residence of Jos. T. Dickerson, the newly appointed Federal Judge for the Southern District.
Several horse thieves have been arrested in the vicinity of Brookin, I.T., who have been doing a wholesale horse stealing in Indian Territory.
Men of foreign companies are in Indian Territory to secure leases on oil lands. The act of Congress validating landleases, it is said, applies also to leases in the Chickasaw and Choctaw nations. The Sante Fe road has commenced operations on leases secured by them.
In the U.S. Court at Ardmore last week, a jury acquitted Harry F. Hill of the charge of killing Geo. Reed near Woodford.
Severe Rains.
Indian Territory and Oklahoma, have for the last ten days had some of the hardest rains known in this section of the country for a long time. Crops have been destroyed, railway traffic impeded, and rivers and creeks impassible. Little creeks that had scarcely any water in them, have become raging torrents, and destroyed quite alot of fencing for the farmers. Traffic over the Sante Fe and Frisco railroads has been delayed, and washout tracks, bridges, and etc. require sometime to repair.
Mrs. James Bullard of near Duncan, was struck and killed by lightning last week.
Married - At the Baptist Church in Byars, June 1st at 10p.m. by Rev. J.W. Bell. C.P.Hoggard and Miss Eva Smith. Both parties live in Byars, where there many friends at that place and McGee, wish them a happy walk along lifes pathway.
Another Snake Story
John Berry who lives several miles south of Sapulpa, had a thrilling experience with a rattlesnake last week. Mr. Berry had crawled under the house in search of eggs, when a large snake raised up within twenty inches of his face. He was wedged beneath a sill and could not get away so he grabbed the snake by the neck, and retaining his hold, crawled out. The snake had ten rattles and a button. Berry is to be congratulated on his marvelous escape.
Here And Elswhere
New potatoes are selling for $6.25 per barrel in New York City.
The latest Eastern war news we have: is that the Japs have captured Port Arthur, after a desperate struggle. The loss of life, over 10,000 men.

An attempt was made by a mob to drive the negroes out of Madill, I.T., resulting in a white man being shot by a negro woman. Quite a number of the negroes have left for Texas and other points.

The old well at the corner of Hyden Bros. store has been filled up. This has been an eyesore to our town, and will improve the looks of our streets considerably.
Lost - On the Maxwell, McGee, and Byars, road, a ladies black cape. Finder will please leave it at teh News office, and receive reward.
Sam Lee and Rev. W.U. Goodwin made a business trip to Chism, Tuesday.
Don't fail to see the entertainment at the Woodmens Hall, evening of the 23 of June.
Josh Keef was in Chism, Tuesday.
R.B Teague and H.J. Barnett were in town Monday on business.
Pauls Valley has suffered three fires within the last ten days. The first fire was in the Tailoring Shop of Kendall & Mitchell. The second fire was in the Grocery store of J.E Burch & Co. The last fire was the Electric Light Plant. The damage from these fires didn't amount to much.
Atty. King of Ada, was a visitor on our town last week.
W.L. Barr of Byars, was here last week.
Chas. Thomas, a druggist of Ada, was shaking hands with friends here last week.
Quite a number of our people attended the icecream supper given at the Hotel Griffin, Thursday night.
John Kieth and W.U. Goodman were in Byars Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Hyden and daughter Mollie, of Center, have been in town visiting realitives and friends the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Hyden were formerly citizens of McGee and everyone welcomed them in our midst. As they return to their home the NEWS goes with them.
L.P. Shi adn Geo. Standridge left for Center Saturday evening, leaving orders at the NEWS office to state their departure in the next issue.
This office enjoyed a pleasant call Saturday from the flowing young ladies, Miss Anna Eldridge, Pearl Cotingham, Nonnie Frogg, Ella Rotenbery and The?? Edwards.We need not state we had plenty of good company.
Miss Pearl Cotingham came over from Wannette Saturday to visit with old acquaintances in our town.
